“Over the past several years, I have been working with youth basketball teams and I have noticed how many bad basketball habits that children develop in the first few years that they play basketball. Whether we think the kids are too young to be corrected or we whether we think that they will learn correctly when they get older or if we just laugh and think that it’s cute when they run down the court with the ball, double dribble 5 times in a row, shoot on the wrong goal, or dog pile on the person that has the ball on the floor, the fact is our children are picking up bad habits during the first few years of their basketball experience. This results in our Middle School Coaches, High School Coaches, and even College Coaches having to completely start from scratch to re-teach and re-train the correct habits that are required to be able to play the game of basketball correctly.

The Big Blue All Star Youth Skills Camp aims to teach the 10 core skills that are necessary to have the correct base of fundamentals needed to successfully play the game of basketball. I have found that the children that I work with can pick up on these skills immediately if they are taught correctly, disciplined appropriately, and if they practice continuously. Basketball is the greatest game ever invented and whether our children play in the back yard or in the NBA, they might as well learn to play the game the right way from the start and they will develop the correct habits needed to enjoy basketball the rest of their life.” -Jeff Sheppard, 1993 Mr. Georgia Basketball (High School), 1996 and 1998 NCAA Champion at the University of Kentucky, 1998 Final Four MVP, Former NBA (NBA Atlanta Hawks 1998-1999, FIBA Italian League 1999-2001)
